This type of marketing spin is to done so a retailer can compete with a high quality outdoor wood product while offering a sub-standard less desirable wood by using a new exotic name.
Its important as a consumer to know exactly what type of wood your purchasing so you can make an informed and educated decision. All woods are not equal and will try and give you some information as such.

After visiting many different reputable patio furniture wood factories we have concluded that the manufacturing facilities will tell the buyer exactly what wood they are purchasing. Buyers are making the decisions on whether to purchase a less desirable wood and re-name it something much different.

Teak wood has many qualities unlike most other woods used for the outdoors. Its dense, rich in oils almost impervouse to buckling or splitting and weathers outdoors unlike no others. Maintained properly teak outdoor furniture pieces can last several years.
Teak patio furniture however, is not impervious to some retailers, using other woods as teak substitutes. We have found no other wood used in the construction of patio furniture that compare to teak. One should also ensure that the selected teak is harvested from government credited plantations.
